Building 60: the latest addition to the University of East Anglia Campus, consisting of general teaching spaces and laboratories linked by a large atrium.

Client: University of East Anglia
Main Contractor: R G Carter
Architect: Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects
Product Installed: College Blind®

A key part of the brief was the ability to control the blinds in a way that didn’t have a negative impact on the external view of the building. InterLace were called in to offer design support and the Unbreakable College Blind by Aluzion was proposed:

  • Robust design enables the blind to cover up to a 4.75m span in one blind ensuring a more uniform appearance from outside.
  • A dark coloured glare control fabric was proposed to give both maximum performance and make the fabric less noticeable from the outside.
  • A detachable crank handle to raise and lower the blind according to weather/time of year etc, leaving the blinds at a uniform level across the building.
  • Super strong roller blind with a 10-year warranty offering savings on maintenance.

R G Carter commented that the “design input from InterLace was beneficial for the install.” The relationship built with the contractor over the years ensured that our product offering was in keeping with client requirements and expectations, whilst respecting the contractor’s budget.
